Materials and animal welfare
Where do the hairs come from?
Horsehair is cut from the mane. Boar bristles come from the back. Both are by-products of the food industry, so no animals are raised or killed to make a toothbrush. SELVA is not vegan, and we prefer to state that openly rather than sugarcoat it.
Are the bristles cleaned before being put into the brush?
Yes. The bristles are boiled and sterilised before being fitted into the handle. They absorb more water than nylon, so rinse the brush after use and stand it with the bristles facing upwards — that way it will dry between uses.
What is the brush made of, and can it be composted?
The handle is a single piece of bamboo, and the bristles are horsehair or boar bristles – there is no nylon anywhere. The bamboo handle can be composted, and the bristles biodegrade on their own. The box is unbleached cardboard with no plastic film and can be recycled with paper. If you cut off the bristles first, the handle will decompose faster.
Usage and durability
Should I choose soft or firm?
When in doubt, choose soft. Horsehair is silky soft and designed for sensitive teeth and tender gums. Firm is boar bristles with more resistance, for those who are used to really feeling the brush.
How long does a SELVA last?
Six to eight weeks, like a regular toothbrush. Change it when the bristles start to splay. Four in a pack will last one person about six months.

When will it be released?
Five to ten days for free shipping and track and trace. The children's toothbrushes and tongue scraper can be pre-ordered, and the expected date is shown on their respective product pages.
What if I don't like it?
Return it within 30 days for a full refund — even if you've brushed with it every day. In addition, there is a 14-day right of withdrawal and a 2-year warranty.
Is there a subscription or a binding contract?
No. You can choose a subscription with a discount if you wish, but a one-time purchase is a regular purchase with no commitment.
