Does SELVA release microplastic?
No. SELVA brushes are made of 100% natural fibres with no nylon or plastic, so they do not release microplastic while you brush.
Do natural fibres clean as well as nylon?
Yes. A comparative study (PMC, 2025) found comparable effectiveness at plaque removal — on a par with conventional brushes.
Are the brushes vegan?
The bamboo model is — the bristles are bamboo fibre, 100% plant-based, and it is also our soft brush. The horsehair model (medium) uses natural animal hair, cut from the mane as a by-product. Both are biodegradable and completely free of nylon.

Does SELVA make health claims?
No. We refer to research on microplastic as documented exposure — not as a specific illness.
Can the brush be composted?
Yes — the whole brush. The bamboo handle and the bristles are both natural materials, so it can go in the home compost as it is. Nothing needs to be pulled off.
