Most bamboo toothbrushes are only green in the handle — the bristles are still nylon. SELVA is the toothbrush we were looking for ourselves but could not find: no plastic at all, from the bamboo handle to the natural bristles.
The story
It started at the bathroom sink
I thought I had done the right thing. I had bought a bamboo toothbrush. Then one evening I turned the pack over and read the small print: bristles of nylon-6.
The handle was bamboo. The bristles were plastic. It was not plastic-free — it was painted green.
I looked for one that was plastic-free the whole way through — the bristles too. It did not exist in Denmark. So we made it ourselves. Today you can choose between horsehair (medium) and vegan (soft, with bristles of bamboo fibre). Neither contains any nylon.
The mission
Change one thing. Be done with it.
You do not have to change your whole life. You are not an eco-warrior — you would just like to look yourself in the mirror and know that this choice was real. SELVA makes it easy to start in one place: with the toothbrush.

Most "green" brushes are only plastic-free in the handle. SELVA is plastic-free the whole way — bamboo and natural bristles, no nylon anywhere.
No jungle of claims
We only say what we can document. No empty green words, no claims you need a chemistry degree to see through. You should know what it actually is.
The way it was before plastic
Natural bristles are the original toothbrush — that is how they were made for hundreds of years, long before nylon. We simply never switched.

Open it, plastic-free
Your SELVA arrives in 100% unbleached paper — no plastic. The pack can go straight in the compost.
Brush the way you always do
Use SELVA like any other toothbrush. The bamboo handle gives a natural grip, and the natural fibres clean gently.
Compost the whole brush
When the bristles are worn out (after six to eight weeks), the whole brush can go straight in the compost. There are no parts to pull off.

The materials
Why we choose natural materials
Bamboo. The handle is made of bamboo — one of the world's fastest growing plants. It is biodegradable and completely free of plastic.
Horsehair. A medium fibre cut from the mane — a thorough clean with a little bite, and our most tested brush. A by-product of the food industry; no animal is put down for a toothbrush.
Bamboo fibre. Our vegan model: soft and 100% plant-based. The same handle, the same price — gentle on sore gums and sensitive teeth, and for anyone who wants to avoid animal products entirely.
